Power by stage
Stage 1 and 2 are estimates: bootmod3's published percentage gains applied to the 382 hp US stock figure. Stage 3 and 4 are typical build ranges. Real results depend on fuel, weather and the individual car.
Software only
up to +28%Stage 1 is a flash of the factory engine computer through the OBD port. Toyota revised the B58 for 2021+ with a new exhaust manifold, lower-compression pistons and 382 hp, so check your model year: 2020 cars start from the earlier 335 hp version.
Stage 1 tuning platforms compared
| Platform | Fuel | Claimed gain | ≈ Power (2021+) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| bootmod3 | 91 US | up to +22% | ≈466 hp | Cloud-based flash tool with map switching on the steering wheel |
| bootmod3 | 93 US | up to +25% | ≈478 hp | Same file family on higher-octane fuel |
| bootmod3 | E30 blend | up to +28% | ≈489 hp | Needs a roughly 30% ethanol blend |

Recommended with Stage 1
- Heat exchanger (intercooler) upgrade strongly recommended
CSFWagner TuningMishimoto
The A90 cools its charge air through a water-to-air system. A bigger heat exchanger keeps power consistent in hot weather and on repeated pulls.
- Gearbox (TCU) tune recommended
xHP
A gearbox tune for the ZF 8-speed sharpens shifts and raises the torque it will accept.
Downpipe and breathing parts
up to +34%Stage 2 adds a downpipe, the biggest single hardware gain on the B58, and runs a file written for it. An intake, a bigger intercooler and a cat-back exhaust complete the package.
Stage 2 tuning platforms compared
| Platform | Fuel | Claimed gain | ≈ Power (2021+) | Required hardware |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| bootmod3 | 91 US | up to +26% | ≈481 hp | Downpipe |
| bootmod3 | 93 US | up to +28% | ≈489 hp | Downpipe |
| bootmod3 | E30 blend | up to +34% | ≈512 hp | Downpipe |
| MHD | Multiple | See brand page | Downpipe | |
Parts list
- Downpipe required
VRSFAWE TuningActive AutowerkeAkrapovič
Typically worth 20–30 hp with the right tune, and it helps the turbo spool faster. Choose a catalysed version to stay road legal.
- Intercooler upgrade recommended
CSFWagner TuningMishimoto
Keeps intake temperatures stable under heavy load.
- Intake recommended
EventuriAWE TuningDinan
Small power gain, sharper throttle response and more turbo sound.
- Cat-back exhaust optional
AkrapovičAWE TuningVRSF
Mostly sound. Not required for Stage 2 power.
Bigger turbo, fuel and gearbox
600–700+ hpPast Stage 2 the stock turbo runs out. A hybrid or big turbo adds 100–300 hp, and builds this size usually move to EcuTek for flex-fuel and port-injection control. Full E85 is not possible on the stock fuel system, and the stock ZF gearbox starts to slip at around 650 wheel horsepower.
Parts list
- Hybrid or big turbo required
Pure TurbosHKS
Hybrids keep the factory fitment; big-turbo kits need a new manifold and supporting parts.
- Low-pressure fuel pump and port injection required
Spool PerformanceFuel-It
The stock fuel system manages roughly E40–E50 with a flex-fuel sensor. Full E85 needs an upgraded low-pressure pump and port injection.
- Custom tune on EcuTek required
EcuTek
The usual platform for big-turbo, flex-fuel and port-injection builds.
- Built gearbox required
Spool PerformancePure Turbos
Built ZF 8-speed gearboxes are rated from about 700 to over 1,000 wheel horsepower. Plan it together with the turbo.
Built engine
800+ hpThe B58's factory bottom end is strong, so a built engine is for serious drag and roll-race builds. The quickest A90s in the world run heavily modified B58s at well over 1,000 hp. These are community build ranges, not product claims.
Parts list
- Forged pistons and steel connecting rods required
JE PistonsWiseco
Sold as matched sets for the B58. Choose the compression ratio with your tuner.
- Custom dyno tune required
EcuTek
Every Stage 4 car is tuned on its own.
- Driveline, cooling and brakes required
Spool PerformanceCSF
Gearbox, differential, axles, cooling and brakes all have to keep up with the engine.
Questions to ask the shop
- Is my car a 2020 or a 2021+ model, and does its engine computer need unlocking?
- Which platform will you use, bootmod3, MHD or EcuTek, and why?
- Which exact file will you flash, and for which fuel?
- Is the downpipe catalysed and road legal where I live?
- Does my gearbox need a tune or a rebuild at this power?
- Can the tune be returned to stock, and what does that cost?
